The 85th edition of the Augusta Masters Tournament is back to normal. And relocates in the spring, on its usual dates during the first half of April, from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11. Last year, the 2020 edition was postponed to the fall, due to the coronavirus pandemic . If the date had changed, the tournament had of course been maintained on the course of the Augusta National Golf Club (par 72, 7475 yards or 6835 meters), two and a quarter hours south of Atlanta (Georgia, United States -United).
Less than five months later, the field of players for the 2021 Masters has been defined around the 50 best players in the world ranking, supplemented by the former winners, to which are added the twelve highest ranked from last year, the dolphins of the other tournaments adults and three amateurs. So 88 players were invited. The big absentee is called Tiger Woods, convalescing after his terrible car accident. Like the last winner Dustin Johnson, everyone (DeChambeau, Rahm, McIllroy…) wants to put on the famous green jacket reserved for the winner and worn by club members. A Frenchman appears in the field of players: it is Victor Pérez (30th player in the world).

Last November, Dustin Johnson, who deprived the tournament of suspense, pocketed the $2 million check reserved for the winner. He set a new record by winning the event with a 20 under par card. The four days saw a fantastic shot from Jon Rahm and a terrible “drowning” from Tiger Woods. The full Augusta Masters prize pool was $11.6 million. A victory in the tournament earns 600 FedExCup leaderboard points and 1665 Race To Dubai leaderboard points.
By once again becoming the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, before the USPGA (May 20-23 at Kiawah Island), the US Open (June 17-20 at Torrey Pines) then the British Open (July 15-18 at Royal St George’s), the Masters 2021 is however undergoing some modifications in its program, in order to adapt to sanitary conditions.
First important change: the tournament no longer takes place behind closed doors. Ticket holders who, it should be remembered, benefit from a purchase priority from one year to the next, will have limited access to the Augusta National Golf Club this year with their precious sesames. But the “Patrons”, members of the club, will be able to attend the tournament according to a daily gauge and certain criteria. Wearing a mask will be compulsory. Also in effect will be: social distancing, hand sanitizing and cashless payments for all concessions and merchandise. The traditional par 3 contest (“Par 3 contest”), which attracts a huge number of fans every year, has again been canceled and will therefore not take place on the Wednesday, the day before the tournament.

On the other hand, the dinner of champions, which brings together the former winners of the Masters at the initiative of the last winner, is maintained on Tuesday evening. Last November, it had not taken place on the floor of the Augusta National clubhouse, according to the wish of Tiger Woods, its organizer, for “respect social distancing”.Dustin Johnson is leading the festivities on Tuesday, April 6, setting the menu for his guests.
