The record of loaned players

While the 2021-2022 season ended a few weeks ago, discover the results of our 7 players on loan this season. While some were rather convincing, others had a complicated season away from the Principality. Who do you want to see stay in Monaco next season?

Benjamin Lecomte (Atlético Madrid):

Arriving as an understudy for Jan Oblak, one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, Benjamin Lecomte certainly did not expect not to play a single minute this season. Diego Simeone has decided to field Oblak in all matches, including the Copa del Rey. Lecomte will therefore return to the Principality, but could leave AS Monaco during the transfer window, two years from the end of his contract, Nübel remaining at ASM next year. Interest from Rennes has filtered in recent weeks, but other clubs are reportedly interested in signing the 31-year-old.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:
– 0 La Liga game played
– 0 Copa del Rey match played
– 0 Champions League game played

Antonio Barreca (Lecce):

Follower of loans since his arrival in Monaco in 2018 (Newcastle, Genoa, Fiorentina), Barreca this time was loaned to Series B, to revive a career in decline since his transfer to the Principality. If the start of the season was successful for the left side, he had a more complicated end to the season, where he only played 2 games between March and May. With his club, Barreca finished Serie B champion and the Puglia club will return to the top flight next season. Without Barreca, who will not remain. The Italian is under contract with Monaco for another season, and it is very likely that he will not fit into Philippe Clement’s plans next year. Paul Mitchell should try to loan him out again or transfer him permanently.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:

– 22 Series B matches played, 18 starts, 2 assists
– 2 Italian Cup matches played, 2 starts, 2 assists

Strahinja Pavlovic (FC Basel):

Loaned to the winter transfer window in Switzerland where he wanted to get more playing time than in the Principality, he ultimately played 10 games with FC Basel, all in the league, not being qualified to play in the Europa Conference League with the Swiss club. Loaned without a purchase option, the Serbian international will return in the offseason. The situations of Disasi and Badiashile being scrutinized by major European teams, Pavlovic could possibly be an internal solution.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:

– 10 SuperLeague matches played, 7 starts

Arthur Zagré (FC Utrecht):

Arrived in 2019 from PSG with the status of a great hope, Zagré has continued to disappoint since his arrival in the Principality. Loaned to Dijon last season where he could not get the desired playing time, the left defender tried his luck abroad this season, at FC Utrecht. In the Netherlands, he did not confirm the hopes placed in him, playing only 11 games in all competitions. During the second half of the season, he did not play a single minute, except for 65 minutes in the last two games of the season. Loaned for two seasons, he should continue with the 7th of the last championship next season, for main objective to take off his career.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:

– 9 Eredivisie matches played, 4 starts, 1 goal
– 2 Dutch Cup matches played, 1 start

Jean-Eudes Aholou (RC Strasbourg):

Loaned for the second consecutive season to Strasbourg, Jean-Eudes Aholou will definitely return to Strasbourg next season. Bought for 14 million euros in 2018, Aholou will be bought definitively by the Alsatian club, paying the 3 million euros included during the loan of the midfielder. If he never knew how to impose himself in the Principality, Aholou was able to convince Julien Stéphan to use him in the rotation of the Alsatian midfielder. The Ivorian will have played 25 games in all competitions and thus contributed to the excellent season of the RCS, very close to winning European qualification at the end of the season.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:

– 24 Ligue 1 matches played, 11 starts, 1 goal, 1 assist
– 1 Coupe de France match played, 1 tenure

Anthony Musaba (SC Heerenven):

On loan last season to satellite club Cercle Bruges, Anthony Musaba returned to his country, to SC Heerenven, to get playing time and gain experience. If the young striker’s statistics are not particularly good (1 goal and 1 assist in 31 matches), he took part in all the matches (except for one match due to suspension), and is one of the few players on loan where he has progressed this season. Musaba, 21, will return to Monaco and will try to convince Philippe Clement during the preparation for the new season. Otherwise, he could again be loaned in France or abroad.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:

– 31 Eredivisie matches played, 15 starts, 1 goal, 1 assist
– 3 Dutch Cup matches played, 2 starts

Pietro Pellegri (AC Milan / Torino):

Loaned at the start of the season to AC Milan, Pellegri did not convince and left the Lombard club in the winter transfer window to join Torino, another Serie A club. If he played more in Turin than in Milan, he has only started twice this season and has only scored once. Despite this, the Torino would be on the verge of reaching an agreement with the Monegasque leaders to keep Pellegri. A sum of around 5 million would allow ASM to get rid of one of the biggest flops of recent seasons. In the good news for the Italian striker, he returned to the Espoirs d’Italie team and scored twice in matches in June.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:

– 15 Serie A matches played, 2 starts, 1 goal

Willem Geubbels (FC Nantes):

In Monaco since 2018, Geubbels had never been able to find a place in the Monegasque workforce, because of numerous injuries which kept him away from the field for a long time. With only 17 games played with ASM in three seasons, Geubbels was loaned to FC Nantes last summer to gain playing time and experience. If he has played more (26 matches in total but only 6 starts), FC Nantes will not exercise the purchase option set at 6 million euros, despite the victory in the Coupe de France. The former Lyonnais will therefore return to the Principality in the off-season. At the end of the contract in 2023, Geubbels could be loaned again or sold definitively. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old striker would interest several French and foreign clubs.

Statistics for the 2021-2022 season:

– 22 Ligue 1 matches played, 4 starts, 2 goals, 1 assist
– 4 Coupe de France matches played, 2 starts, 1 goal
