Considered one of the most important sporting symbols and a priceless relic, the original could only be touched and approached by a handful of individuals, including former world champions and chefs of state. The regulations specify that the original trophy must remain the possession of FIFA and cannot be won. The victorious team in the final therefore retains it only on a provisional basis, before being awarded the trophy for the edition in question, the FIFA World Cup™ Winners’ Trophy (gold-plated and indicating the year, the name of the host country and the winner).
