Bourges Basket and Agnès St-Ges want to be ambitious on all three counts

Due to the World Cup in Australia (September 22 or October 1), the start of the school year has been postponed by one month in the Women’s League. Between the international deadlines, the 22 regular season LFB matches, the 14 Euroleague and, later, the Coupe de France… a necessary work of harmonization of the schedules has been carried out.

“When we play the three competitions, it also depends on the opposing team, specifies the president of the club. But, already, we are satisfied to have been able to advance three home games on Friday. This avoids finding yourself in competition with other sports, locally or outside the department. »

The internationals return on October 10

If the Tango will start their championship on October 29, with a trip to Roche Vendée, they will be mobilized well before. From October 18, at the Prado, on the occasion of the Supercup match between the two winners of the European cups. “We applied immediately, because we knew that Sopron also wanted to receive, slips Agnès St-Ges. It seemed important to us to restart the season at home in the best conditions. »

The Match of Champions will follow, three days later in Paris, against the winner of the Coupe de France, Basket Landes. But with which team? “Our internationals, and there are many of them, will only be able to arrive from October 10,” she adds. We also have to let them breathe because, behind, the season will be very dense and very intense. Everything is off this year. The coach will only be able to resume with very, very few players. »

Last season, only the final of the Coupe de France escaped Tango.

Anyway, it will certainly be difficult to obtain better results than last season (victories in LFB and Eurocoupe, finalist of the Coupe de France). All the more so by playing, this time, the “big” European Cup. Nevertheless, Bourges Basket has not given up on its ambitions.

“In Euroleague, there is an opportunity this year with the absence of Russian clubs. The objective is not to go to the quarter-finals, but to reach the final square. »

Agnes St-Ges (President of Bourges basketball)

“On the three tables, we keep the same objectives: to seek titles, assures Agnès St-Ges. In Euroleague, there is an opportunity this year with the absence of Russian clubs. The objective is not to go to the quarter-finals, but to reach the final four. It’s important to keep filling the showcase with trophies. The players come to play in Bourges to win titles. We also want to organize a new Final Four to promote our city, our department and our region through women’s basketball. We will also offer trips to our community to support the team on certain destinations: Prague, Bologna or Valencia. »

Steinberga, Anderson, Bankolé, Alexander: Bourges Basket confirms its recruits

With five main departures (Iliana Rupert, Isabelle Yacoubou, Elin Eldebrink, Keisha Hampton, Kristen Mann) and four reinforcements (Yvonne Anderson, Anete Steinberga, Ornella Bankolé and Kayla Alexander), the workforce has changed more than in previous seasons.

More than 500 renewals

“For two years, the team was stable, recalls the president. We knew there was bound to be more upheaval. This does not facilitate the start of the season. We know the importance of the first games to win points and be in a good position at the end of the regular season. But I am confident, we are dealing with professional and talented players. What worries me more are our injuries. Maybe we need to strengthen the squad a bit. It’s planned, but nothing will be easy, our competitors, like Lyon, have strengthened themselves. »

The new subscription campaign will start from August 22, but already more than 500 loyal supporters have renewed their lease for next season.
